    Handy Tips From the EPA

     

    If a fluorescent bulb breaks on a hard surface:

    • Open a window and leave the room for 15 minutes.
    • Scoop up the fragments with cardboard.
    • Put on disposable rubber gloves and clean the area.
    • Put the gloves and the fragments in plastic bag and seal it.
    • Put the plastic bag in another plastic bag and seal it.
    • Wash your hands.

    On carpet:

    • Open a window and leave the room for 15 minutes.
    • Scoop up the fragments with cardboard.
    • Use duct tape to pick up some more fragments.
    • Put on disposable rubber gloves and clean the area.
    • Put the gloves and the fragments in plastic bag and seal it.
    • Vacuum the area.
    • Remove the vacuum bag.
    • Put the vacuum bag in a plastic bag and seal it.
    • Put that plastic bag in another plastic bag and seal it.
    • Wash your hands.

    According to the numbers in this article, 0.00071% of the population outside of Canada dies each year from a "hands dirty infection", while the rate for Canadians is 20x that (0.013%).

    Busy nurses wash their hands every 51 to 60 seconcds.

    There are so many problems to be solved here it is hard to know where to start.
