Handy Tips From the EPA
If a fluorescent bulb breaks on a hard surface:
- Open a window and leave the room for 15 minutes.
- Scoop up the fragments with cardboard.
- Put on disposable rubber gloves and clean the area.
- Put the gloves and the fragments in plastic bag and seal it.
- Put the plastic bag in another plastic bag and seal it.
- Wash your hands.
On carpet:
- Open a window and leave the room for 15 minutes.
- Scoop up the fragments with cardboard.
- Use duct tape to pick up some more fragments.
- Put on disposable rubber gloves and clean the area.
- Put the gloves and the fragments in plastic bag and seal it.
- Vacuum the area.
- Remove the vacuum bag.
- Put the vacuum bag in a plastic bag and seal it.
- Put that plastic bag in another plastic bag and seal it.
- Wash your hands.
